Get ready for Autumn planting by building a wicking bed using the ideas from the wicking workshop and watch your plants thrive. Dig compost or manure lightly into the soil, then rake it, making sure it is crumbly, level and smooth. It will eventually break down, supplying the soil with beneficial organic matter.

Winter Planting - June - July - August

Replenish the soil by adding animal manures and plenty of compost and lightly rake it through. Winter vegetables do well with cow manure and dolomite lime added, as well as a layer of pea straw, lucerne or sugar cane mulch on the surface. Winter vegetables require at least four to six hours of sun a day

Summer Planting December – January – February

Prepare the soil. Before you plant any vegetables, prepare your garden beds by digging the soil and adding organic compost at least 1-2 weeks before you start planting. Essential to the success of your garden especially during summer is watering. This is where a wicking bed is very useful.
